Gurara Dam



With 75km tunnel through the Kaduna and Usuma basins of Kaduna State and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), it is Nigeria’s largest and pioneer water transfer scheme.The Gurara Dam Water Project is a multipurpose project for water supply, hydropower, irrigation and ancillary uses.

Technical Details
  • Rockfill Dam with central clay core, 53m high, 3,000m long; volume: 8,000,000m³; Lateral Spillway (Q= 4,200 m³/s).
  • 75 km long Conveyance Steel Pipeline, diameter: 3m; flow rate: 8m³/s.
  • A Power plant (30 MW) : 28 m³/s.
  • Connection through one substation (132 kV) and a 132 kV electrical line (length: 80 km).
  • Free of charge water for irrigation: 28 m³/s.
